Lab2: STEAM+ Sustainable Sea and City Challenge

1 November 2021 @ 08:00 - 17:00

To achieve our goals, we host STEAM+ Innovation Labs. These are interactive workshops where teachers and students experiment with different methods of cocreation and cooperation to solve real world problems. The experiences we gain from these labs are used to improve our products.

Host: University of Klaipeda, Lithuania

Introduction

Key Theme: ‘Sustainable Solutions for a Harbour City’.

Working within the UN Sustainable Development Goals, the lab will focus on five key SDGs – all linked to the key Innovation Lab theme, and (we think!) to particular local interest areas for students in relation to student campuses / University.

Challenge: Participants will listen to a programme of speakers. Their challenge is to take one (or more) of the themes, define a local campus/Uni problem related to this theme, and develop an innovative solution that can be implemented and will make a positive SDG impact on campus / within their University.
Dates / Format: Mon Nov 22nd from 09.00 to 15.30 (CET) with breaks to Dec 3rd. During this two-week period, the teams will research the local issues, interview and define actors / blockers, and determine a solution. Participant teams will work on the challenge and report back – with a video presentation on Friday Dec 3rd!
Speakers: The kick off session will have speakers who will provide participants with an overview of the SDGs and some reasoning behind these five SDGs goals.

This will be followed up with a number of specific thematic presentations for each of the five chosen SDGs – Lithuanian and EU. These will be short punchy 15-20 minute presentations showcasing innovations already developed and in use that are helping to make a positive impact within these SDGs (similar perhaps to these – https://nordregio.org/events/youth-journey-towards-a-sustainable-economy/ and these – https://nordregioprojects.org/beubio/ ).

Teams: We are looking for student teams of up to five participants (great if they could each represent a strand from the STEAM acronym!!) and a teacher/lecturer as a facilitator if required. Where possible to include those from the Venice lab.
Award The idea with the strongest impact will be presented with the STEAM+ award.
